Climate
Change
Nicky has a long track record of promoting recycling, cutting
pollution and working to improve London's environment. She has
pushed climate change to the top of London's agenda, with action to
cut carbon from London's homes, workplaces, energy supply and
transport systems. She has brought forty of the world's
largest cities together, with London in a leading role to cut
carbon, working with Bill Clinton's Climate Initiative.
Children and Young People
Nicky has ensured that every GLA planning policy considers the
interests of children and young people, who make up one quarter of
London's population. She has driven a new policy to make
large new housing developments in London provide proper play
facilities for children - something close to her heart as a mother
of four.
Transport
Nicky commissioned the initial research on which the Mayor's
Congestion Charge policy is based and has promoted planning and
transport policies which have got London moving and achieved the
fastest shift out of car onto public transport of any world
city.
Policing and
Crime
As a member of the Metropolitan Police Authority, Nicky has
consistently supported action to cut crime and increase police
numbers, especially through putting police back on the streets with
Safer Neighbourhood Teams for every ward. She has supported
action to curb domestic violence and the new borough wide safer
Transport teams.
Housing
and Planning
Nicky has fought for more affordable housing through her leading
role in the London Plan and has pushed government to give the Mayor
more powers to ensure a higher proportion of housing built if
affordable and low carbon.
